How to Ensure Your Job Ads Are Being Seen on Indeed

Indeed.

It’s like the granddaddy of all Job Boards.

With over 300 Million UNIQUE visitors a month, it is responsible for 65% of hires nationwide. It gets jobs for more people than all other job sites combined.

So, now that I’m done hyping up Indeed and you understand the power that it holds… the question is, why aren’t you using it? And if you ARE using it… are you using it right?

Why you should be using Indeed

Indeed is such a powerful tool for blue collar business owners.

I’d love to share a few tips to help you increase your visibility on Indeed to ensure your ad is seen by more people… and more qualified job seekers.

So, how should you be using Indeed?

1. Create quality titles - Your word count matters!

So often I have clients come to me with job ads with the craziest job titles. For example, one company was hiring for a plumbing technician, however, for their job ad they labeled the position “toilet king”. While yes, that is unique and fun, in reality, job seekers are searching for positions they KNOW. No one is looking up toilet king positions.

Another tip - Don’t use emojis and symbols in your job title. It’s another thing people don’t search for! Be concise and specific. I like to keep job titles at about 5 words, or 35 characters, give or take.

How long should my job ad be?

2. Create quality job ads - Remember, your word count matters!

Job postings between 700-2000 characters, or about 100-300 words, get up to 30% more applicants than other job postings. If job ads get too long, they’re less likely to be read. This doesn’t mean creating a boring, bullet list of expectations, requirements, and duties is the way to go… there’s a happy medium. Give them just enough so they’re eager to apply and learn more about your position.

Remember that your writing a job ad, not a job description. Job descriptions are legal documents, job postings are enticements to apply.

Don’t make your job ad all about your company, be sure to tell the job seeker what’s in it for them. Highlight what makes you different from your competitors. Sell your company as an employer of choice.

3. Keywords, baby!

Make sure to pack your job ad with industry & position-specific keywords. Words someone would search when looking for a position in your field. If you do, Indeed’s algorithm will put your keyword-heavy ad at the top of search results.

4. Be transparent!

New laws are being passed that the US will require a level of salary transparency at some point in the hiring process. Indeed boosts ads that have salary information in the job ad!

Should I sponsor my job ads?

YES!

5. Sponsor your job ads!

12 jobs are added to Indeed every SECOND. That means it’s really, really easy for your job to fall back deeper in the job search if you’re not doing everything you can to increase your visibility. One of the best pieces of advice that I can offer you is to - sponsor your jobs.

Doing so your job will gain higher visibility and appear more often in job searches.

It’s time to take hiring to the next level. It’s a competitive hiring market and if you want to hire the best, you need to be the best.
